Best vacuum for wood floors

housekeeping-cleaning the floorIf you are looking for a vacuum cleaner that you can safely use on your wood floors, there are many things to consider. First, you want a quality vacuum that does a great job. Second, you want a machine that will not scratch your wooden floors. Scratching wood floors is not something to take lightly. A unit with a strong beater bar will work wonders when it comes to getting dirt out of carpeting, but can be hard on your hardwood floors!

Because many homes have both wood floors and carpeting, it is usually best to find a model that has a beater bar that is easily turned off and on with the flick of a switch.

Okay, now that we know you want to preserve your floors without scratching them, let’s consider what else to look for in a vacuum cleaner. Obviously you want good suction, a quiet motor, and a good filtration system that keeps the air in your home clean. Do you want an upright or a canister model? Do you prefer one that has replaceable dust bags, or do you prefer a model that does not require a bag? Let’s Take a look at a few different models and see what you think.

Hoover WindTunnel T-Series Pet Rewind Plus

Hoover WindTunnel T-Series Pet Rewind PlusThe Hoover WindTunnel is a canister type vacuum that does not use bags. It includes a power nozzle with a swivel head that makes reaching around corners and under furniture simple to do. The unit comes with a cyclonic multi-stage filtration system.

Even though it has no bags, it does a great job of filtering the air. It also provides lots of suction and does a better than average job at getting floors clean. The Hoover WindTunnel also comes with a simple fingertip switch that turns the beater brush on and off — so it is easy to switch from cleaning your carpeting to your wooden floors.

The filtration system on the Hoover WindTunnel has several stages — a very good feature which is truly beneficial in keeping the air clean. The filtration system also helps the unit maintain strong suction.

Dyson DC26 Multi floor compact canister vacuum cleaner

Dyson DC26 canister vacuum cleanerThe Dyson DC26 is the next unit we will consider. This unit is also a small canister model and comes complete with an attachment for cleaning wooden floors. Dyson vacuums are well known for their powerful suction as well as their quiet motors.

Some reviewers, however, have felt that the suction head on the Dyson DC26 does not do a great job when it comes to cleaning carpets, especially carpets with deep piles. Also, since the canister is smaller, the bag free receptacle fills up very quickly. If you have a large house you may have to empty it several times during a single vacuuming.

Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Hoover Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum CleanerNext up is the Linx Cordless Stick by the Hoover Company. If you have a small apartment, a stick vacuum is a relatively inexpensive way to replace larger and more expensive vacs.

The Linx includes a powerful brush that can be switched on and off between cleaning your carpets and your wood floors.

Because this vacuum is light and think, it is easy to get under tight spots.

Another benefit of this model is its Energy Star rating. That means it has reached the energy efficiency guidelines as established by the United States EPA and the Department of Energy.

Dirt Devil Breeze Bagless Cyclonic Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Dirt Devil Breeze Vacuum CleanerFinally, let’s take a look at the bag free upright vacuum made by Dirt Devil. The Dirt Devil Breeze is an inexpensive unit (under $50). Even though it is extremely light weight, it still enjoys a HEPA filtration system. The unit has a small canister that is very easy to empty. Consumers have rated the Dirt Devil as one of the best units for cleaning wooden floors. And although the Dirt Devil has no rotating brush, there is a shield on the front of the unit which stops dirt from being blown behind the machine as you clean your floors.

As you can see, when it comes to vacuum cleaners there are many fine models on the market. Which unit is best for you? If you have wood floors you will want to choose that allows you to clean your floor surfaces without a rotating brush. Other than that, it really depends on the size of your home and the frequency of your cleaning schedule.

    Hi,

I love everything about this “Hoover WindTunnel” vacuum. It works perfect on any flooring! I used it on the carpet and wood floors and had no problems! The retractable cord is another plus. I don’t have to worry about untangling the cord. Did i mention that the cord itself is around 20ft long? It’s so convenient! You don’t have to unplug the vacuum to clean the next room. Thank you…

    Regards,
